The Kissing Fence – Back Story

The opening scene of The Kissing Fence (Caitlin Press 2020) is an attack by an owl on a cyclist riding at night in Stanley Park, Vancouver. It is a true story and resulted in me developing the story of the book. Here is the explanation.

The Kissing Fence uses a fictional account of real events in BC to explore the struggle to hold on to culture, values and identity. It follows two generations of Doukhobors to explore what happens when these are lost, and what is needed to cause someone to change course in order to recapture them.
